Charity inspires Tarring woman's skydive

JANE Pescott is going to leap out of a plane at 13,500ft to raise money for charity.

She is doing a tandem skydive in aid of Canine Partners '“ a charity providing assistance dogs to disabled people.

Jane, of High Street, Tarring, is a fund-raiser for Canine Partners and will be doing the jump with eight colleagues in a bid to raise 4,000.

Jane, 29, said: "My colleagues decided they wanted to do something to raise money.

"They came up with the skydive and I found myself saying yes.

"It works out quite well because it's my 30th birthday the next week.

"In my early 20s, I did something extreme every year, so I'm hoping to start up that tradition again."

Real difference

The group will do their skydives on Sunday, April 26, at the London Parachute School in Oxfordshire.

Jane previously did a parachute jump six years ago and said she is more nervous this time round.

At first, she said her instinct was to say no, but she decided she wanted to help Canine Partners further its invaluable work.

She said: "The dogs make a real difference to people's lives, for instance it can be the difference between them going out or not.

Special training

"Also, many people tell us that since they have had their dog, so many more people talk to them when they're out and about, so there's a social element to it, too."

To fully train a Canine Partners dog it takes 18 months and costs 10,000.

Jane said if the group achieved its 4,000 target, it would cover the cost of training a puppy for the first 12 months of the scheme.

Once trained, Canine Partners dogs can do all kinds of things to make life easier for disabled people, from helping them out of bed in the morning to getting milk out of the fridge.
