Charity swim involves 17 schools

The swim at Splashpoint pool is held in aid of the Worthing mayor’s chosen charities and this year, the beneficiaries will be Guild Care, Canadian Roots and Kamelia Kids.

Organiser Kim Woodley said: “The event was great fun, with around 130 swimmers doing anything from one to 250 lengths.

“The mayor of Worthing, Michael Donin, started off the event by being pushed in by some young swimmers.

“There was music, cheerleaders The Panthers performing poolside and a group from CircusSeen entertained and enthused all those attending the event.”

The swim attracted children from 17 schools, as well as some adults. Last year, just over £5,000 was raised and it is hoped this year’s swim will beat that record total.

Roffey Homes supported the event by paying for the pool hire, Worthing Homes paid for the helpers’ T-shirts and medals, Sainsbury’s donated bananas, Glendale Theatre Arts Dance School supplied goody bags and Active Sussex gave a grant of £200.

Kim added: “Sponsorship money raised will be shared between the mayor’s chosen charities.

“Huge thanks and congratulations to all those who took part and also the fabulous sponsors.”
