Worthing Lions Club president Bob Chalcraft and PR officer Marian Downs presented Louise Emery, 35, of Christchurch Road, Worthing, with a cheque for £70 on Saturday.

Two tyres on Louise’s red Kia Rio were recently slashed as part of a spate of car vandalism in Christchurch Road.

Speaking at the cheque presentation Louise said: “I felt overwhelmed. It brought me to tears. We are so grateful that they can help.”

Marian added: “When we saw what happened the car is an absolute lifeline for her. It’s hard enough bringing up a baby and especially one with special needs.

“This is what we are here for.”

Louise’s eight-month-old son, Jack, suffers with hydrocephalus, epilepsy and hyperinsulinemia and often visits the hospital.

Louise said she would also like to thank the couple who gave a cuddly toy and a card to her and Jack after reading about the vandalised car.

Bob said: I can’t think of a better case that deserves our help than this one.

Worthing Lions celebrated its 61st anniversary with a dinner dance on Saturday night.
