Charlotte had a two hour bus ride there and back once a week but said it was all worthwhile because she has always wanted to study agriculture.

"I loved it," she said.

"I love being outside - I could never work in an office, it would drive me up the wall."

She said of the award: "I was really surprised - I can't believe I got it. I was the only girl on my course but it was not a disadvantage, it just made me feel stronger. I never felt I was just a girl."

She says she has tutor Paul Broadwick to thank for his support and encouraging her to do the course.

Mum Andrea commented: "I was really pleased."
