MORE than 80 primary-school children took part in a family challenge to design and build a box to hold food bank donations.

The children from North Lancing Primary School in Mill Road, Lanicng, made the ‘harvest boxes’ for the charity Lancing and Sompting Basics Bank.

Staff encouraged pupils to be creative when decorating their boxes.

Designs ranged from tractors, wheel barrows, woodland animals and scarecrows to autumnal scenes and pictures.

Headteacher Mrs Brown said: “A huge well done to all those who entered, the standard was exceptionally high.

“There was gong to be a winner and runner up but now everyone will get a certificate and a little prize because they have all done so well.”

The boxes are designed to hold enough food to feed a family of four for three days.
