Inspired by his two daughters, Jib Hagan, 61, of Brougham Road, Worthing, is once again channelling his energy into his charity, Collecting and Recycling Ecologically (C.A.R.E).

In June, Jib’s wife Alba died from cancer aged just 57. They had been married for 35 years.

He said: “My children said ‘you can’t sit and let other people suffer’. They are saying she’s gone but life has to continue, and we have to continue to help others. It’s been a very difficult time after 35 years of marriage.”

It was shortly after Alba’s death that Jib began experiencing severe headaches.

He visited Vision Express, in Monague Street, Worthing, for an eye test which revealed he had glaucoma in his right eye. The condition has caused him to lose 38 per cent of his vision in that eye.

It was this experience that prompted him to partner with the World Eye Foundation Ghana.

He said: “They want us to supply computers for them so they can help in their clinics across Ghana. These days everything is linked to the PC. If they haven’t got a PC how can they do their work effectively?

“So if you imagine the experience and pain I had to go through – severe headaches where sometimes I couldn’t move my head – and imagine in Ghana where the technology is not available for them to be able to diagnose things like this. ”

Jib is hoping to send a shipment of computer hardware to Ghana at the end of the month. He ensures all donated systems are wiped of data and then once in Ghana he installs Linux Ubuntu software onto them.

He said: “I’m willing to go to companies and wipe the data there for assurance and trust. We have got miles to go and we need more help.

“We need computers, laptops, printers and accessories. We also take office furniture. I’m here to help again.”
