Chiropractic clinic could be turned into dwellings

A CHIROPRACTIC clinic may be converted into a house and three dwellings built in its grounds after a planning application was approved subject to further negotiations.

A total of 45 objections were raised against the plans for the Sea Lane building, in Goring, including fears the new houses would encroach on the privacy of neighbours.

A statement to Worthing planning committee, from the Ilex Conservation Group, last Wednesday said: “The proposed development is in no way whatsoever in keeping compared with other properties in Sea Lane or any other property in the general vicinity of the Sea Lane Goring residential area.

“The design and the appearance are over-bearing and out-of-scale in terms of general appearance and character to Sea Lane and also Goring Hall properties.

“Therefore, the proposed development would have an adverse impact on the residential amenity and public view of all properties and have a wider and greater and substantial impact on the wellbeing of the neighbourhood.”

Chris Barker, of agents ECE, said the town needed housing and noted the plans had been scaled back from previously agreed designs.

The committee delegated the decision to officers to approve the development, subject to negotiations about the suitability of screening, which may include the provision of an extended flint wall, instead of trees.
