Chorus of support for tsunami charity CD

AN Indian school devastated by the tsunami could soon be rebuilt thanks to the fantastic singing voices of children in Ashington.

Youngsters at Ashington School launched a charity CD to raise money to rebuild Panchayat Elemen-tary Union School in Tamil Nadu. When the tsunami devastated the region, 13 pupils from the school were killed.

The song, Happy Ever After, is a re-mix of the popular hit by Julia Fordham, the internationally-acc-laimed signer/songwriter. And Julia actually helped the children produce their special CD.

Head teacher Martin Garratt said: "It has been a fantastic experience for the children to be involved in and we are looking to make a big difference in the Indian school we are linking with."

The CD, which was launched at Ashington Community Centre, came together after children at the school said they wanted to help victims of the tsumani.

So, the chairman of the school's PTA, Caroline James, thought it would be a fantastic idea to contact Julia, her old school friend.

Julia, who is currently living in America, re-wrote the chorus of her song and faxed new lyrics over for the children to learn.

A studio in Horsham donated its services to the cause and recorded the children singing the new part.

This was then rushed to a studio in London, where record producer Grant Mitchell, who also produced the original version of the song, re-mixed Julia's and the children's voices together.

Julia said: "It is incredibly heart-warming how this little school project has taken on giant wings and is now soaring all the way from Ashington to LA to India and now Malaysia."

The CD, which also features two duets with Bollywood star Aadesh Shrivastava, are available at Silverscreen DVD stores, Virgin Records and Tesco in Shoreham.

They are also available for 4.99, plus P&P, online at:
