Christmas crisis narrowly averted

A SCHOOL’S Christmas tradition which looked set for cancellation this year has been revived after governors found the money to fund it.

Parents had launched a campaign to self-fund the Durrington First School Christmas tree, after they were told it would not go ahead this year.

Mother-of-three, Christine Busson, of Chiltern Crescent, Durrington, said: “The whole issue with the tree has now been resolved and we now have the funds to get the tree.

“We are very happy and are looking forward to seeing our children’s faces when they see the tree.”

The tree, according to Mrs Busson, attracts families from around the area, as they drive past to look at it.

When she heard the tree would not be funded this year, she organised a campaign to raise funds to keep the tradition alive.

An application to the Worthing County Local Committee Community Initiative Fund was rejected at a meeting last Wednesday.

Durrington and Salvington county councillor Trixie Hall said the tree was always ‘impressive’.
