Christmas lights at centre of assault on Worthing couple

A COUPLE were assaulted in Worthing after a confrontation about a string of Christmas lights outside a house.

A 47-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were assaulted in Alfriston Road, Worthing, on Sunday, December 14.

The victims were collecting their daughter from a party near to the junction with Wiston Avenue at 1.45am.

The man was punched and repeatedly kicked after confronting two men who had ripped a string of Christmas lights down outside a house. He suffered cuts and bruises which required hospital treatment.

The woman also suffered cuts and bruising when she tried to stop the suspects.

PC Martin Waltham said: “We are still keen to speak to any witnesses that were passing by who may have seen or heard something which may help with our investigation.”

The suspects, aged 17 and 18, from Worthing, were arrested on suspicion of Assault. They were both questioned and released on bail until Saturday 21 February.
