Christmas switched on in Little Common

The traditional Christmas Tree lights of Little Common were switched on by Town Mayor Jimmy Carroll on Sunday.

After the countdown there was a short journey to Little Common Community Centre for festive entertainment by the Little Common and Bexhill Players who sang some seasonal songs.

This was followed by a community carol service.

Julie Apps, of Little Common Business Association which sponsors the event, said: “Afterwards the children received a present from Father Christmas and we all enjoyed refreshments of tomato soup, jacket potatoes and mince pies courtesy of Jan’s Larder, Earls bakery, Carroll’s greengrocers, Two Trees cafe and the Little Common Business Association.

“The event was well supported by the local community.”

The ceremony included a presentation of an engraved fork and spade and framed certificate to Keith Walter in recognition of his outstanding service to the village.

Julie added: “Keith is the man who waters and maintains the glorious displays of flowers around the village during the summer.”

As well as the presentation to Keith the LCBA gave cheques to Home Call, Bexhill and Little Common Players, St Jude’s, Care in the Community, and Little Common Primary School.
