Church begins raising funds for new toilets

Worshippers in Lancing will be relieved to know that a campaign is starting on Saturday to raise money to build toilets and a small kitchen at their church.

The 120 congregation members at St James the Less Church in Manor Road, Lancing, currently have to use the facilities at the vicarage which is a short distance from the church itself.

Tim Loughton, MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, will make an appearance at the summer fair on Saturday to officially start the fundraising campaign, which hopes to raise around £150,000.

The 13th century church does not even have running water and the nearest source is a standpipe in the churchyard.

The summer fair will be held at St James’s Church Hall in Mill Road, Lancing, from 10am till 1pm on Saturday, June 29.
