The priest, Fr Chris Ingle, and the congregation welcomed Worthing mayor and mayoress Michael Donin and Linda Williams, youth mayor Harry Williams and deputy youth mayor David Price, to join them for the celebration.

Also in attendance were the first Holy Communion children and members of 6th Worthing (St Michael’s) Scout Group.

The mass was followed by a jubilee buffet reception and shared lunch in the hall, with music provided by Flash Company.

Mrs Moira Clark, who was married at the church just after it opened in 1966, baked a wonderful jubilee cake in the shape of a Bible.

There was a lovely display in the hall with pictures of the building of the church and wedding photos of a number of couples who married in the first year.
