Eight friends who went to Davison High School for Girls in Worthing in the 1940s regularly meet up but they wanted to organise a bigger gathering.

Diana Worsfold, of Seamill Park Crescent, Worthing, wrote a letter in October, listing the names of a number of ‘old girls’ who had been in her class from 1944 to 1948, hoping they could be traced.

“Eight of us meet up regularly and between us we remembered the maiden names of the others,” she explained.

As a result, a group of 13 women sat down to lunch at Northbrook College, in Littlehampton Road, Worthing.

“Ten of these were in the same form as me in 1944 and I spoke to five others who for one reason or another were unable to attend on that day,” said Diana.

“Gemma Clark, a photography degree student at the college, took a photo of the group.

“As 11 of those were in the same form in 1944, it makes a total in years of age of 902, and with the five absentees, times 82, it makes a combined total of 1,312. We are hoping this might be a record.”
