CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGY LAUNCHED

Staff and councillors at Lewes District Council are working on putting the council's climate change stategy to work.

The council is amongst only a small group of local authorities to have published a climate change strategy.

This builds on a great deal of work the council has been doing in encouraging environmental sustainability.

Councillor Julie Carr, Lewes District Council Lead Member for the Environment, said: 'We are keen to do our bit to mitigate the effects of climate change and to adapt to this threat.

'We are very proud to be one of the first councils in the area to have prepared and now launched a strategy for dealing with this enormous challenge.

'This represents the start of a long process which will require concerted and sustained effort by all of us. Action is needed now to avert a global disaster and the actions of all of us matter. We are, after all, all in this together.

The strategy gives up to date information on climate issues and illustrates what Lewes District Council is doing to reduce its own impact on climate change.

An action plan lists practical and achievable ways in which individuals, organisations and businesses can reduce their carbon emissions.
