The Welcome In pre-school in Crescent Road, Worthing last received the top grade four years ago and manager Maria Ventura-Paul spoke of her pride in what staff had achieved.

The pre-school is run by the Salvation Army and has been looking after children from low-income families for 20 years, but will close at the end of July.

A spokesperson for the charity said the closure was because the pre-school wasn’t financially viable in the current climate.

They added: “Throughout our work at our pre-school for the past 20 years, we’ve been grateful for the professionalism and excellence of our staff – this latest Ofsted report reinforces and recognises all they have achieved and we hope they will take this success with them into their next roles.

“We are offering assistance to staff as they look to secure new roles for when the Welcome In pre-school closes at the end of this academic year.

“We continue to be committed to delivering relevant and innovative services for people of all ages in Worthing and across the UK.”
