CND'S PRECINCT PROTEST

A large model of a Trident nuclear missile dominated the shopping precinct in Lewes on Saturday.

It was there as part of a protest by Lewes and District CND.

Later this year thegovernment is to decide whether or not to replace this country's nuclear missile system - Trident.

CND members at the stall were also encouraging people to attend the NO Trident, Troops Out of Iraq demonstration which takes place in London on Saturday February 24 (CND members will be on the 10.20am train to London).

Susan Murray, chairman of Lewes CND, said: 'The estimated costs of replacing Trident just keep rising - I have now seen 100 billion mentioned. Yet the government can name no enemy against whom we could feasibly launch Trident.'
