Coaches, buses and taxis targeted by police in Sussex

Vehicles used for carrying holiday makers across Sussex were targeted as part of a roads policing operation in July.

More than 80 vehicles were stopped and checked during the month-long Operation Tourist which concentrated on the road worthiness of buses, coaches and taxis carrying holiday makers, licence and insurance offences and the number of working hours drivers undertake.

Sergeant Phil Duffy of Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit said: “With the summer holidays now in full swing it is important that the minibuses, coaches, taxis and private hire vehicles which carry holidaymakers around Sussex are fit to get people to their destinations safely.

“During July we had a collision involving a coach which goes to show how important the checks that are carried out during Operation Tourist are.”
