Coffee and cakes to help cancer support

Staff of Jacobs Steel’s office in Chapel Road baked a mountain of cakes and savoury treats which were well received by all.

Manager director Ashley Jacobs said: “We are delighted with the team effort which has resulted in raising more than £250 for this most worthwhile charity.

“The sales skills of the staff came fully into play when any leftover cakes were taken and sold to local competitors!”

Staff at retirement home provider Anchor were helped out at their coffee morning by town crier Bob Smytherman and Splash FM’s Dave Hunt.

Shops and bakeries donated raffle prizes and cakes which estate manager Nicola Rouse said was ‘very generous’. “We managed to raise £321 on the day which is a fantastic amount, a lot more than we thought we would do,” said Nicola.

“It was a lovely morning enjoyed by myself, all the residents and Bob and Dave.”

The coffee morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event.

People across the UK hold coffee mornings to raise money for people living with cancer.

In 2013, 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20million.

This year, similar events were held at Goring Conservative Club, Cambridge Lodge, Pansas House, Davison High School, Toni and Guy in South Street and at many more homes and businesses around Worthing.
