Collaborative piece on show at Lancing Art Club exhibition

The artwork brings together 20 pictures, framed and mounted together to illustrate key scenes from Worthing to Southwick.

Mark Juby had the idea to work together and a list of 20 places was put together, with members able to select one to paint.

“We received a grant from the Adur and Worthing Trust as part of the Commit to Culture initiative,” explained Mark.

“The only criteria was to paint in acrylic. It is just a bit of fun because all the club members took a part in it.”

It will hang in the foyer for the whole of the exhibition then go on tour to five libraries from Worthing to Southwick, spending four weeks in each.

Mark said: “We want lots of people to see it and thought this was a good way of sharing it with the community. It will be on display until November and we will then decide where to have it on permanent display.”

The club has members from Worthing to Shoreham, though the majority live in Lancing.

The last collaborative piece brought together members’ paintings of scenes in and around Lancing. It was donated to Lancing Parish Council in December 2013 and now hangs in the council chamber at Lancing Parish Hall.

The main exhibition, in the South Hall at Lancing Parish Hall, in South Street, Lancing, will feature around 120 paintings. It will open on Saturday, 10am to 8pm, and then opens daily from Monday until Friday, August 21, 10am to 8pm (3.30pm on the final day).

Entrance is free and visitors will be asked to vote for their favourite picture and the most original painting. Club members will also vote, for the Ron Polwin Award, which this year has the theme ‘soft’.
