Colleges in Worthing and Lancing celebrate top A-level results

Students have been picking up their results today

Worthing College has received its best ever set of AS and A-Levels, as well as a strong performance in BTEC subjects, with more students achieving a pass grade than ever before.

The overall pass rate for A-Levels was an impressive 98.4 per cent, with more than a third of students (39.1 per cent) clinching top marks between A* and B.

Likewise, the college’s BTEC Level Three pass rate was fractionally stronger than last years, standing at an 97.8 per cent, with more than three quarters of these picking up top grades.

Worthing College Principal, Peter Corrigan, praised his ‘talented and inspirational’ staff and students for all their efforts. He said: “The results that our students achieved today are excellent.

“These students are the first to be taught exclusively at our outstanding new college and these results reflect the outstanding learning environments and teaching that the college provides.

“The A-Level pass rate of 98.4 per cent is the best ever achieved by our students.

“These results follow an outstanding year of student achievements at the college.

Elsewhere, the one of the area’s independent schools has seen several successful students achieve top places at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

More than three quarters of A-Levels taken at Lancing College were awarded either A* or A grades – well up from last year which saw more than half achieving top grades.

Almost 40 per cent achieved at least one A* grade.

Several students have been accepted to study at either Oxford or Campbridge on the back of their results.

Those include Tara Slade, of East Preston, who gained two A*s and two As, and will read medicine at Cambridge; Brandon Clifford, of London, gained four A*s and one A, and will read mathematics at Oxford; Matthew Gurtler, of Brighton, will study modern and medieval languages at Cambridge after clinching gained two A*s and one A, while Jack McMinn, from Hove, who achieved four A*s, will read natural sciences at Cambridge.

Other top students included Amelia Young (A*A*AA), Dukcie Pearson (A*A*A), Rebecca Truscott (A*AA), Catherine Sheldon (A*AA), Will Rowland (A*AA), Orrie Hamilton (A*AA), Tassia Cloran (A*AA), Oliver Potts (A*AA) and Patrick Palmer (A*AA).

Lancing’s headteacher, Dominic Oliver, said: “All of us at Lancing are delighted with these results, which are excellent across the board.
