Colourful fun at free community event

A tremendous 4pm downpour failed to dampen the spirits of those attending Sunday’s event.

Villagers packed into the Recreation ground to see the 60 Classic Cars and 30 craft stalls, or enter their dog in the RSPCA dog show.

Children donned fancy dress, joined with the Activate Youth Club and followed King Keith and Queen Linda to the Recreation Ground in their silver carriage lent for the day by Booker and Best.

Magicians Geoff and Mike then held the children spellbound with their magic tricks. The Arena events included a fun hula hoop contest followed by the talented Acromax gymnastic group and Rye Dance Centre soloists and duets. Popular too was the children’s train ride set up by Sam Burford and kindly lent by Hastings Miniature Railway.

Organiser Jebbifer Annetts said: “The Committee wish to thank everyone who helped or came and supported the event including their sponsors, Just Property, Fairlight Residents Association and Fairlight Parish Council.

“The Guestwell Scout troupe kindly lent three tents and were on hand to uproot some giving the audience cover as they listened to the music.

“Rye Ukulele Group and Friends of Harmony were both performing for the first time at Fairfest and have been invited back for 2016.

“The band who stole the day though, because they played despite their equipment being drenched by the deluge, were The Kytes plus one. They are no strangers to Fairfest and as true stars and with tremendous applause and encouragement from their audience finished the evening in traditional style with Hey Jude.”
