COLUMNIST: James Butcher’s Parish Points

THIS week I am dedicating my column to tell you how you can help to champion Lancing residents and businesses.

Firstly, I am pleased to announce that nominations for the Lancing Community Awards are open. These awards celebrate the contribution local people make to Lancing, with past winners including the founder of Electric Storm Youth Marion Peskett and the brains behind the Sensory Garden, Lydia Schilbach.

This year we are expanding the awards with two general winners plus awards for sporting success, music and art.

Nominate Lancing residents by sending a short piece on why they should win, with their contact details, to Lancing Parish Hall.

For the general categories, this should be a description of what that person has done for the local community. For the other categories, the description should be of what that person has done that is outstanding in that category over the past year. Nominations close on Wednesday 27th August 2014 and winners will be invited to the September meeting of the Council for the presentation of awards.

Secondly, the Adur and Worthing Business Awards are now open. Do your bit and nominate one of our excellent Lancing successes. You can do it online by visiting or, if you prefer to do it the old fashioned way, contact me and I will explain how. Next week you may notice this column is not written by me but do not panic, I will be back! Lancing and Sompting Parish Councils are now going to share the column with each writing alternate weeks. I’m really pleased as it will mean greater communication all round which can only be a good thing.
