Community award for dedicated groupof home fundraisers

The eager volunteers, many of whom have been supporting Caer Gwent for more than two decades, run seasonal events such as the Easter, autumn and Christmas fayres and a strawberry tea in the summer months.

The funds raised from these events go straight towards activities and outings for Caer Gwent’s residents.

The awards were presented by Worthing mayor Bob Smytherman.

Caer Gwent home manager Leona Cameron said: “We truly value the hard work that the Friends of Caer Gwent put into raising money for our residents’ activities.

“With their help, we are able to put on a fantastic programme of outings and social events for our residents.

“So, from everyone at Guild Care and Caer Gwent, we’d like to say congratulations to our Community Angels on this much-deserved award. We couldn’t do it without you.”

Other awards included Most Inspiring Volunteer of the Year, won by George Smewing, for playing the accordion in Worthing town centre to raise money for Chestnut Tree House.

The prize for Young Volunteer of the Year went to Liam Mills, for supporting the youth group at Worthing Kids and Dapper Snapper, who were also commended as an organisation for their work with disabled children. Mia Harman, Sue Ward and Linda Lewis also received awards for their volunteering achievements in Worthing.
