Many events are being organised to remember those lost in the Shoreham airshow tragedy.
People are being invited by Riverfest organisers to the Adur Ferry Bridge – the footbridge in Shoreham High Street – from 7.30pm on Saturday (August 29).
People will be provided with a candle in a jar, which they can place on the bridge to create a ‘bridge of light’.
There will be a book of remembrance to sign and a collection in the marquee on Coronation Green organised by Beach Dreams. There will also be a minute’s silence on Coronation Green and Beach Green at 1.30pm on Saturday and before the dragon boat race at Adur Outdoor Activity Centre at 10.30am.
Beach Dreams organisers have also decided to make the Endless Summer party a free entry event and will be a celebration of the lives that have been lost.
Anyone who has already purchased tickets can acquire a full refund by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or they can choose to donate the price of the ticket.
In Lancing this Saturday, a remembrance in the park event is being held at 1pm at the Manor Recreation Ground. Resident Kirsty-Anne Sim has organised the event, which is supported by Lancing Parish Council, to ‘give those in our community an opportunity to pay their respects’.
There will be a few words spoken by a local clergyman followed by a short silence.
Oscar Jack’s tattoo parlour in South Street, Lancing, is offering black ribbon tattoos with all money going to the airshow disaster fund.
More than 130 people are already due to attend the shop on Saturday to have their tattoos.
MP Tim Loughton has also said a memorial event is likely to take place at Lancing College chapel in the coming weeks.
And, a charity walk from the Old Toll Bridge to the Worthing United ground is planned for Saturday, September 12, at 10am. The walk has been organised by Brett Mendoza, vice-chairman of the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund – a charity aircrash victim Jacob Schilt, 23, had been involved in. The walk will start at the Old Toll Bridge in Shoreham at 10am on Saturday, September 12, and people will make their way to Worthing United’s ground at Lyons Farm. Money raised will be presented to Worthing United Youth Football Club. Visit www.justgiving.com/JacobsREMFwalk for more details. People can register their interest by emailing email@example.com
