Community festival of sport, art and culture begins this weekend

AFTER years of careful planning and preparation, Battle’s Big Event will shoot out of the blocks tonight (Friday) and embark on a relay of exciting events packed into a 10 week period.

The community festival of sport, art and culture, which is an initiative from Battle and District Partnership, aims to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by showcasing projects and events from 27 clubs, societies and organisations in Battle and the surrounding parishes.

To commemorate Battle’s Big Event, Battel Bonfire Boyes will be staging a full weekend of dance, music, competitions, entertainment and games to open the festival (see page 5).

Other events include a variety show, musical entertainment from Battle Light Opera Group and a chance to participate in sports ranging from bowls to running to tennis.
