Community groups and charities benefit from Adur’s Pot of Gold

TENSION mounted at Adur Civic Centre as 14 community groups, charities and residents associations bid for money from Adur’s Pot of Gold 2013.

Each group gave a five-minute presentation outlining their project idea, and 78 residents went along for the live voting on May 9, hosted by BBC Sussex breakfast presenter Neil Pringle.

Winners were rubber-stamped at Adur Council on Thursday.

Friends of St Mary du Haura received the largest amount, £11,500 for the restoration of the chime mechanism of the town clock.

Shoreham Allstars got £9,000 to turn a lorry into a mobile stage, Hove and Adur Sea Cadets got £5,000, Shoreham BMX track got £8,000 and £9,000 will be spent on planting a tree circle on Adur Recreation Ground.

From the super small pot, Marsh House Residents Association got £495 to replace tables in their communal area and North Lancing Primary PTA got £500 for picnic tables for the school playground.

The best of the rest were £9,999 to Lancing Methodist Church, £8,500 to Southwick Rangers FC to replace the windows and doors in the clubhouse, £4,054 to Wickers Gymnastics to replace old and worn gymnastic landing mats, £1,250 to VC Jubilee Cyling for secure storage for club bikes and disabled tandem, and £2,000 to Adur Talking News for new computers and recording equipment.
