Could giant slide set for Sussex be cancelled amid safety concerns?

Slide the City announced plans to bring the 1,000ft inflatable slide to Brighton earlier this year, although an exact date and location have not been confirmed.

However, uncertainty now surrounds those plans after a similar event scheduled in Leeds had to be postponed because of safety fears.

Organisers took to social media to announce the cancellation. It said: “We are notifying you because, regretfully, the Leeds Slide the City event scheduled for July 25 at Roundhay Park will have to be POSTPONED to a future (TBD) date.

“There are a lot of factors that come into play for an event of this nature and safety is our number one concern.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and cannot speculate at this time of when a reschedule may happen.”

No further information about the circumstances surrounding the postponement have been released by the company and refunds were offered to customers who had already bought tickets.

Slide the City did go ahead as planned in Manchester last weekend (Saturday, July 18) with no safety issues.

The giant flume, which is the length of three football pitches, has caused a sensation across the UK, where it has attracted hordes of thrillseekers.

Organisers say: “Slide the City is a family friendly slip-and-slide water party event.

“There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and of course the biggest slip-and-slide that you’ve ever seen.

“Don’t worry, we’ve got it padded. This slide’s got more cushion than your grandpa’s orthopedic shoes.

“Make sure to bring your water buckets, floaties, and water guns (non-realistic of course), to squirt, spray, splash, and get all attending soaked.”

Anyone over the age of five will be able to use the slide, with the price starting at £10 for a single ride, £20 for three rides, and £35 for unlimited use of the slide for an hour before it opens, and an hour after it closes.

Inflatable tubes to ride on are provided, or riders can bring their own.
