Wash & Go, which features ‘intelligent’ machines with eco-friendly features such as weighing laundry to avoid wasting water, is the latest to take advantage of a council scheme to help firms renovate and revamp their shop-fronts.

Shopkeepers can claim up to £1,000 towards improvements from a pot of £20,000, half funded by Adur Council.

One year since the scheme was launched, and the works are starting to show as five firms have spruced up their shop-fronts.

Dave Brown & Son Butchers has installed a new canopy, The Village Florist has had a new blind and fascia signs, IC Photographics has had new fascia signs, and the Premier Takeaway has had a total revamp including window graphics and fascia boards.

Wash & Go was in need of far more help than just a new sign, and repairs to the damaged brickwork and plaster have now been carried out.

Owner Trevor Craig fully embraced the scheme by sourcing a traditional, hand-painted sign made from marine plywood to keep the original style alive, and said he was delighted with the results.

Funding has been set aside to transform for three empty units at Queensway Parade into a family-friendly bistro and bar, while a further grant has been approved for one of Lancing’s oldest businesses, the builder’s merchant Gardner & Scardifield.
