Problems with IT systems at Adur and Worthing Councils left funeral directors unable to book crematorium slots and leisure centres unable to take bookings.
The issue began on Monday and had not been fixed at the time the Herald went to press.
However, the problem was expected to be resolved on Wednesday afternoon.
H.D Tribe funeral director, Max Webber, said that it was a “nightmare scenario”, as Worthing Crematorium relied solely on the online booking system.
He said: “We can’t phone through for dates as the crematorium also use the online system.
“We make between six and 10 bookings a day, so it’s not a good situation.”
“The booking system has been exclusively online for about six months and it’s a shame we can’t still use the old manual system as there is no backup when these things happen.”
