Council takes a step closer to regaining parking control

COUNCILLORS have taken one step closer to regaining control of Worthing’s parking facilities, as cabinet members recommended the service be taken in-house.

At a meeting of the Adur and Worthing Joint Strategic Committee on Thursday, the long-standing issue was discussed again, with members given four options of how to proceed.

The current contract, with NCP and NSL, is due to end in March, 2014.

Committee members from Worthing opted to take the service in-house, a recommendation that will be ratified at a meeting of the full council later this month.

Worthing Borough Council leader Paul Yallop said he was “fed up” of the problems created by the current contract, and felt it was not enough to merely regain control of parking charges.

He said: “I don’t think being under a long-term contract gives us agility.

“I really do think that we need to be in a position where we are in control.

“NCP have not been a bed of roses and I’ve had enough, personally.”
