Councillor saves Remembrance wreaths after strong winds

Strong winds which battered the Sussex coast this morning (November 22) caused Remembrance wreaths to blow away in Worthing.

However, Worthing borough councillor, Luke Proudfoot managed to save them by moving them into Worthing Town Hall, after being ‘concerned’ that they would not stay in place long.

The councillor suggested the idea after he had spent time tidying the wreaths that had been blown away.

He said: “I was concerned at the state of the wreaths at the war memorial during the storm. Although I had tidied and placed the wreaths back in place I was concerned that they would not stay in place long.

“I am grateful to the chief executive and other council officers for taking my suggestion of moving the wreaths indoors and displaying them to compliment the current memorial display.”

Officers have now decorated the town hall’s stairs with the wreaths in a fitting tribute which will prevent damage or loss during the remainder of the blustery weather.
