The regeneration team at Adur and Worthing councils have secured the funding, suitable for groups or individuals planning to run an event.

Applicants must demonstrate how they will engage residents and contribute to the local economy.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration at Worthing Borough Council Bryan Turner said the funding was ‘commitment to giving enterprising groups a helping hand.

He said: “I am pleased that we can again support more exciting ideas for events in the area, demonstrating our commitment to helping these enterprising groups grow their events.

“Showcasing some of the fantastic facilities we have to offer, the enjoyment these events provide to our visitors encourages them to come back again and again.”

Last year, the regeneration team was able to support a range of events, including Flock to Worthing, Lancing’s Sea of Lights and the popular military history day at Shoreham Fort.

A total of 15 events across the area were supported.

Mr Turner’s Adur counterpart, Pat Beresford said it was a ‘fantastic way’ to support some of the area’s excellent events programme.

He said: “These events provide fun and enjoyment to local people who are involved in planning and organising them and the wider audience who come to experience what we have to offer.

This is a fantastic way for people to enjoy some of the enthusiasm and vibrancy of this stunning area in which we work and live.”

Qualifying events must be scheduled to take place between April 2014 and March 2015.

It is hoped projects which receive funding would have a plan to become self-sustaining in the future.
