Countryside groups oppose turbine

FOUR leading countryside organisations have formed an alliance to fight a proposed wind turbine at Glyndebourne.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Ramblers Association, the Council for National Parks, and the South Downs Society have all lined up to oppose the controversial application.

Last week Gus Christie, the owner of Gyndebourne Opera House and estate, told the Express a turbine on Mill Plain would slash its carbon emissions.

He said it would make very little noise and the visual impact of the turbine would be very difficult to see from 5km away.

But the coalition of countryside groups believe the 229-ft turbine will destroy the views of the landscape of the eastern part of the South Downs.

A statement from the alliance said wind turbines had their place but we should be put in more 'suitable locations'.

Lewes District Council is currently considering detailed plans for the turbine and is expected to discuss the application in July.
