Crash driver dies from her injuries

A SEAFORD pensioner suffered fatal injuries in a crash on the A259 near the Abbots Lodge Motor Inn, Bishopstone.

Brenda Waddington, 67, of Crown Hill, died after her Ford Mondeo was involved in a collision with a BMW 750 at the junction of Hill Rise at 9am on Saturday.

She was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital by ambulance where she died from her injuries.

Three fire engines equipped with cutting equipment, from Newhaven and Seaford, were called to the scene to release the drivers from their vehicles.

The BMW driver, a 36-year-old woman, from Peacehaven, and her passenger, a seven-year-old boy, were treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed until midday and traffic was diverted via the seafront.

A police spokesman said: 'This appears to be a tragic accident and we appeal to anyone who witnessed it to come forward.'

An inquest will be held.
