Crawley family leaps to safety from fire

MEMBERS of a Crawley family had to leap from first-floor windows to escape a fire that tore through their home on Sunday morning.

Two adults and four children were taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation but none of their injuries was believed to be life-threatening. The house had no smoke alarm.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received the first of several calls to the terraced house in Fennell Crescent, Broadfield, at 7.27am.

Smoke and flames were pouring from windows and doors, and several callers were stressing the fact they could see children trapped on the first floor.
