A 36-YEAR-OLD from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following a collision with a cyclist yesterday (Monday, June 25).
The cyclist, a 25-year-old man from Worthing has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with head injuries, where he remains in a stable but serious condition following the accident in South Street, Tarring.
Police and emergency services were called to the incident at around 11.30pm, following reports that a dark-coloured saloon car had collided with the cyclist but failed to stop. He was located a short time later and arrested.
PC Karen Whitehouse from West Sussex Road Policing Unit said: “This was a nasty collision but thankfully we were able to trace the driver who left the scene of the incident.
“We are particularly keen to trace the drivers of a maroon 4x4 car and a silver Fiat 500, which were being followed by the vehicle at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting Op Alderholt.”
The arrested man remains in custody at this time.
