A MAN has today (Friday, March 30) been sentenced for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
Graham Muggleton, 28, of Ashdown Road, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court to an indeterminate prison sentence, with a minimum of nine years’ imprisonment to be served.
On April 24, last year, police were called to a report of an assault in Ashdown Road. A pregnant woman had been taken to hospital suffering from knife and bite wounds.
Muggleton was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He admitted the charge at a previous court hearing.
PC Emily Beck of West Sussex Response Investigation Team said: “This was a horrific attack on a pregnant woman who has been both mentally and physically scarred for life as a result of the incident.
“Thankfully the victim and her unborn baby were not seriously injured. I would like to commend her for her bravery throughout the investigation and also thank all the witnesses who assisted police.
“I hope that the sentencing today will offer some kind of closure to the victim to enable her to start to rebuild her life.”
In sentencing Muggleton the judge described the attack as “a savage attack on the mother of your unborn child”.
