Charity shop damaged by fire in Worthing

A CHARITY shop in Worthing was damaged after bins were set on fire at the back of the store in the early hours of Wednesday morning (September 5).

The fire service was called to Chapel Road at about 3am following a report of a blaze behind Scope. As a result of the flames, damage was caused to the back door of the charity shop.

Electric cables, guttering and lights were also melted at neighbouring premises.

A police spokesperson said: “Scope was unable to open its shop the next day as a result of the fire, causing a loss to charity funds.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious between about 2am and 3am on Wednesday morning, or knows anything about the fire being started, then we would urge them to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0145 of 5 September. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
