POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a conman called at an elderly couple’s home in Lancing, posing as a gas man.
He showed an ID badge and said he needed to check their gas appliances in their home in Orient Road on Friday, June 8, at 1.30pm.
As the woman occupant turned on the hot water to get the boiler running, she noticed two other men had also entered the house.
She was alarmed and said she was going to check with her neighbour.
The men then left.
Items had been moved around in the house but nothing was stolen.
The main suspect is described as white with a slight tan, aged in his 40s, of average build, with short dark brown cropped hair.
He is said to have been around 5ft 6in and was wearing a navy blue polo shirt with cargo style trousers.
Detective Constable Sarah Thurgood said: “We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen these men in the area at the time and also reminding people to check ID thoroughly and to phone the utility company if they are not satisfied.”
