Five ‘slaves’ rescued from fishing boat in Shoreham Port

A number of people believed to be being held as slaves have been rescued from a fishing boat in Shoreham Port.

Sussex Police said officers received a report of concern for crew members on a fishing boat moored in the harbour yesterday evening (November 4). Officers rescued five men, aged between 23 and 44, and took them to a place of safety to receive support and advice.

Two men, aged 36 and 47, were arrested on suspicion of keeping persons in slavery, police said, and are currently in custody for interview and further enquiries. According to police, none of the people involved came from Sussex.
