THE crew of the police helicopter had a laser shone directly at them as they looked for missing person last night (Monday, October 31).
The South East Air Support Unit was looking over Midhurst before being called to another task in Worthing at 8pm, when a laser was shone at the pilot and spotter in the craft.
They located where it was coming from and called in officers on the ground who arrested a 16-year-old girl in Worthing. The laser was recovered.
The girl was detained on suspicion of endangering an aircraft and has been released on bail until December 3.
PC Ben Wallbank from the South East Air Support Unit said: “This is an ever increasing trend throughout the whole of the UK and is putting police and civil aviation at risk.”
