Man arrested after running from police onto Worthing roof

A man who took to the roof of a building when stopped by police has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife and crack cocaine, police said.

The man was asked to stop by police officers at around 1.10pm in Gordon Road today (Thursday, May 18), a spokesperson confirmed.

“He ran off and was then seen on the roof of a house, but came down of his own accord and was arrested,” the spokesperson said.

An 18-year-old man from Wembley was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife blade in a public place, criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 and possession with intent to supply a controlled Class A drug, crack cocaine, said the spokesperson.

He remained in custody on Thursday afternoon.
