Witnesses are being sought after a man was assaulted in a Worthing pub yesterday.

The 39-year-old man was punched in the mouth and suffered a deep cut to his face in the attack at around 11pm in the Three Fishes Pub, Chapel Road, according to police.

Police said the victim was further assaulted outside the pub after he attempted to stop his attacker leaving the scene. The victim, who was visiting the town on business, needed hospital treatment for the cut to his left eyebrow.

Police are seeking one main suspect who may have been assisted by second man when the altercation continued outside the pub.

The main suspect is described as white, aged 18-25, 5’ 11”, of slim build, with short dark hair and a well-groomed full beard. He was wearing a dark top with a lighter-coloured shirt underneath, dark-coloured jeans and light-coloured trainers.

The man who assisted him when the altercation continued in Chapel Road is also white, of a similar age, medium build, clean shaven and around 5’ 10” tall. His hair was blond and short, and he was wearing a blue t-shirt which was torn during the fracas.

PC David Slade said: “This was an unprovoked attack on someone who was simply out trying to have a quiet drink”
