The victim left the property in Poulters Lane at around 5.15pm and came home half an hour later to find a window on the ground floor had been smashed.

There had been an untidy search of many rooms and it is believed a number of jewellery items were taken.

Detective constable Emma Fields said: “The victim had only left her home for a short time and it is possible she may have disturbed the suspect(s) as her purse, smart phone and iPad were left untouched in the kitchen.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time - and who saw anything suspicious - to get in touch.”

Witnesses can email [email protected] or call 101 quoting reference 1321 of 19/07.

Alternatively, anyone with information can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).
