A CAR was stopped by armed police officers in Durrington after reports a firearm was inside.
A silver Peugeot containing four men was stopped by police in Durrington Hill, near Hill Barn golf course, at 10.20am today (Tuesday, August 9.)
It had been seen by police in Lewes Road, Brighton, 25 minutes earlier, and information suggested that there may have been a firearm in the car, though none was found.
The car was followed by police, with the assistance of the police helicopter, as it made its way west along the A27 before turning into Durrington Hill.
It was soon established that there was no firearm in the vehicle.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving with no insurance.
Despite rumours circulating, police said there were no shots, no injuries and no damage.
