Police are investigating an incident in which a taxi driver was flagged down and then stolen from.

Officers were called at about 3.30am on Sunday, October 9 after a taxi driver had his mobile phone stolen in Rugby Road, Worthing.

The victim was flagged down in the road by a man described as black, aged between 20 and 30 with short black hair and wearing a dark padded jacket. It is thought he was with a group of around five or six other men, according to police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the driver locked his doors but rolled his window down to speak to the man who threatened to stab him if he didn’t hand over any money. No knife was seen.

The victim drove off but then noticed his smart phone was missing from the dashboard cradle.

A 16-year-old boy from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and currently remains in custody while police enquiries continue.
