Teen attacked with a hammer in broad daylight in Worthing

A teenager was left needing hospital treatment after he was struck by a hammer in Worthing.

The victim, an 18-year-old man from Kent, was taken to Worthing Hospital suffering from cuts to his face and legs after an attack in Shelley Road yesterday afternoon (Friday, October 5).

Police were called at around 4.45pm by concerned members of the public reporting a man had been assaulted by a group of three men.

The suspects are believed to have used a hammer to strike the victim before leaving the scene on foot.

They are described as black, in their 20s and wearing dark hooded tops and tracksuit bottoms.

The victim’s injuries were superficial and he was later discharged from hospital.

Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare of West Sussex CID said: “We are keeping an open mind regarding the motive for this incident. We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about who was involved and hasn’t yet spoken to police to get in contact.”
