Teen dragged along by car in Angmering

Police are appealing for the woman driver to come forward following the incident on Thursday (June 14), which saw officers called to Station Road at 12.24pm.

On arrival at the scene, it is said they found a 19-year-old man with severe cuts, who said he had been dragged along by what is believed to be a grey Ford Mondeo. He had also had his mobile phone stolen.

He told officers he was walking towards the railway station and was using his iPhone when he was stopped by a woman in her car who appeared to be upset and in distress.

She asked to borrow his mobile to call her husband, and because the victim was concerned about her, he leant into the vehicle to pass it to her. He had his arm and part of his body inside the car as the woman started to dial the number, but she suddenly drove off at speed, dragging the victim along.

Inspector Beardwell, from the Worthing Response Investigation Team, said: “This young man was driven several metres along the road before he fell from the car and rolled along the road. He suffered severe cuts as a result of the incident.

“We are urging the woman responsible to come forward and make herself known to police. Extensive enquiries have already been undertaken to locate her and it will only be a matter of time before she is traced.

“This crime could have had far more serious consequences. As it is, the victim has suffered serious injuries and, understandably, is deeply traumatised by what has happened.

“This incident took place in broad daylight and it would appear that the woman, who was on her own in the car, had stopped and spoken to other people prior to it happening.

The offender has been described as white, in her late 20s to early 30s, of medium build, with long blonde or light brown hair. She wore dark coloured jeans and hoop earrings and spoke with a local accent. The car is described as a grey Mondeo, around a 53 plate.
