A burglar who broke into a house in Goring stole thousands of pounds worth of antiques and silver ornaments.

The raider struck in Amberley Drive between 11.15pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday, November 17 to 18.

The householders were asleep upstairs at the time, but did not discover the break-in until the following morning.

Among the items taken was a six inch silver donkey ornament, which is not particularly valuable, but is sentimentally significant and rather unusual. Other items included a carriage clock, a silver bird musical box and a George III knife box.

Detective Constable Lindsey Van Buiten said: “Many of the items taken have great sentimental value for the owners and they are especially keen to be reunited with the silver donkey.
